Watching SpaceX Starship Launch Tomorrow!

Another Year Of The Opposite Milestone Tomorrow, watching a rocket lift off.

I’m writing this from the shore of the Rio Grande River at Rocket Ranch near Boca Chica, Texas. I’m looking at Mexico just across the river. It’s gorgeous.

I am here with my dear friend, Chris Strandt. Tomorrow, SpaceX is schedule to launch Starship from their base only a few miles away. Starship stands nearly 400ft tall, making it the largest spaceship that humans have ever launched.

As you may recall, they did a test launch back in April that they were forced to detonate because it had several mechanical failures.

Sadly, much of the media incorrectly characterized the attempt as a failure. I wrote about how it was actually a huge accomplishment.

Chris and I arrived here a few days ago hoping that today (Friday 11/17) would be the liftoff, however, there was a mechanical failure of one of the actuators that controls one of the grid fins that is used to maneuver and steer the rocket. I had hoped that in this post today I’d be able to share the videos of the launch but since it’s pushed until tomorrow, I will have a full update in next week’s post. Year Of The Opposite Accomplishment Updates:

• On Saturday I ran my fastest half marathon and broke below the 2 hour barrier completing the 13.11 miles in 1:52:52.

  • Note: As many people told me, but I ignored because I’m silly, running much slower and keeping my heart rate in the Zone 2 range really helped my overall speed and endurance somewhat paradoxically. The turtle really does beat the hare.

• On Monday, I completed my first ever full marathon distance run! I completed it in 4 hours 38 minutes and 26 seconds. (4:38:26)

• Today I completed my task of running 1,000 miles in 2023 by completing a half marathon distance from Rocket Ranch (11/17/2023). I was able to watch the sunrise over Texas desert horizon. It was absolutely gorgeous. I have 44 days left in the year to get even more miles under my belt!
