Video: Is Driving A Tesla Cheaper Than a Gas Car?
Road trip from Lansing to New River Gorge West Virginia. Behind the scenes of owning a Tesla.
The most common question I get about the Tesla is: How long does it take to charge? Therefore, I always wanted to create a video that would do a deep dive and show what it’s like to own an electric car. Well here it is!

I try to answer all these common questions in this video:
Is it cheaper to drive an electric car vs a gas car like they say? (Spoiler: Not always.)
Can you take a Tesla on a long road trip? (Spoiler: Yes, but it will take longer)
How long does it take to charge? (It depends)
How much does it cost to charge? (It depends)
Where are the chargers located? (Everywhere!)
How does autopilot work? (Amazing!)
Does it have cameras that record all the time like a DVR? (Yup! Watch me get ran off the road!)
How much longer does it take to do a road trip vs a gas vehicle? (Probably about 20% longer)
Some of the answers may surprise you.
In this case, the Tesla took about an hour and thirty minutes (1:30) longer for this road trip if everything went perfectly, it wasn’t cheaper than a average mile per gallon gas vehicle, and the autopilot saved my life from an aggressive driver that tried to run me off the road. Luckily, Sentry Mode recorded the whole thing so you get to see the video.
I hope you enjoy this video! Please comment with any questions, email me back, or text/email anytime. I live for your feedback.
Please Share this Video with someone you know that has an electric vehicle and see what they think. I welcome their feedback or corrections on anything that I got wrong.

I’m In West Virginia for the Rim To River 100 Mile Run
I am in New River Gorge West Virginia for the Rim To River 100 Mile Run. I’m pacing and crewing for my good friend Elissa Tubergen who is a badass! I will be joining her as a pacer at mile ~92. She started this morning (Saturday) at 6am and will be running all night. I will be joining her at about 4am. I’m terrified because there are mountains our here and I’ve only ran in flat Michigan!
Check out this sunrise this morning!
